Travelers returning to the skies to reconnect with family and friends this Independence Day are driving Delta's domestic leisure travel numbers back to pre-pandemic levels. Approximately 2.2 million customers are expected to travel with Delta between July 2 and July 6.

While Delta people across the business are hard at work to deliver the safe, welcoming and reliable experience they're known for, Delta's Operations and Customer Center (OCC) - including a team of 25 meteorologists - are monitoring weather systems stretching along the East Coast to the Southern Plains. If your flight is delayed or canceled for any reason, you will be automatically rebooked and can use the Fly Delta app to manage travel plans.

For customers traveling on Delta this weekend, here are three ways to stay in the know throughout your travel experience:

1. Download the Fly Delta app to manage your trip

A must-have travel companion, the Fly Delta app automatically checks in eligible customers 24 hours before their scheduled departure, allows customers to track their bags, shares real-time updates throughout the journey and can even help find that pre-flight meal or drink in the airport with its way-finding feature.

Need to change an existing trip within 24 hours of departure? Customers can use the Same-Day change feature and browse an array of alternative flight options.

Has the weather caused your flight to cancel or miss a connection? Delta will automatically send you a notification directing you to another flight option in the app. Customers can monitor Delta.com or the Fly Delta app for up-to-date flight status information.

2. Get ready for a smooth security screening

Here are a few TSA requirements and general security tips to help you move through the screening process smoothly:

  • Give yourself plenty of extra time before your flight to check your bag and pass through security.
  • Have your ID out when you arrive at the checkpoint.
  • Once you place your shoes, bags and pocket contents into a bin, make sure you double-check your belongings for prohibited items like full water bottles and liquids larger than 3.4 ounces - save those large bottles of sunscreen for your checked luggage.
  • Grab a separate bin for personal electronics and approved liquids packed in quart-sized clear resealable bags. TSA officers may ask travelers to remove other items, such as powders and materials that can clutter bags and obstruct clear images on the X-ray machine and place them in bins as well.
  • Customers are allowed one carry-on bag and one personal item free of charge. Remember to make sure at least one item fits underneath the seat in front of you. If you bring a roll-aboard suitcase or large bag, check the size requirements to make sure it fits in the overhead bin before your flight.

For future travel, consider signing up for TSA pre-check or a CLEAR membership to speed-up the security process.

3. Pack your mask (and headphones!)

Federal law requires everyone wear a mask at all times while in the airport, during boarding and deplaning, and for the duration of a flight. Remember that those who are vaccinated for COVID-19 are still required to wear a mask. Also, be sure to pack your headphones to enjoy the latest hit movies, TV series and premium entertainment available on Delta Studio once onboard. With seatback screens on nearly all of Delta's mainline fleet*, customers have even more ways to sit back, relax and enjoy their flight.
