Engie Brasil Energia S.A. reported consolidated earnings and operating results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2018. For the quarter, the company reported net operating revenue of BRL 1,868.9 million compared to BRL 1,605.9 a year ago. Results from operations were BRL 875.6 million compared to BRL 734.7 million a year ago. EBITDA was BRL 1,046.6 compared to BRL 885.5 a year ago. Net income was BRL 489.3 million compared to BRL 450.7 million a year ago. Return on Equity was BRL 27.9% compared to BLR 23.4% a year ago. Net debt was BRL 5,800.3 million as at March 31, 2018. Income before taxes was BRL 718,674,000 against BRL 663,037,000 a year ago. Net cash from operating activities was BRL 700,857,000 against BRL 733,231,000 a year ago. Cash used in fixed assets and intangibles was BRL 460,021,000 against BRL 371,777,000 a year ago.
For the quarter, electricity output from plants operated by ENGIE Brasil Energia was 10,001 GWh (4,630 average MW). This result is 2.8% lower than production for the same period a year ago. Total output breaks down as follows: hydroelectric plants, 8,842 GWh (4,093 average MW), thermoelectric plants 905 GWh (419 average MW) and the complementary sourced units 255 GWh (118 average MW). Results point to, respectively, reductions of 2.5% and 6.9% on the hydro and termoelectric energy sources and increase of 4.4% in complementary energy sources, in relation to first quarter of 2017.
ENGIE Brasil Energia S.A., formerly Tractebel Energia S.A., is an independent utility concessionaire. The Company is engaged in the business of generation and commercialization of electrical energy. The Company develops and operates power plants. The Company installs and operates plants fired from conventional energy sources, such as hydroelectric, thermoelectric and complementary units, small hydroelectric plants and wind, biomass and photovoltaic plants. The Company's installed capacity, including its stakes in energy generation consortiums, is approximately 7,000 megawatts. The Company's generation facilities in operation consist of 29 plants, of which nine hydroelectric power plants, seven thermoelectric power plants (three coal, three biomass and one natural gas plant), three small hydro power plants (SHPP), nine wind farms and one photovoltaic solar power plant.
