Engie Brasil Energia S.A. (BOVESPA:EGIE3) will cease operations in Jorge Lacerda coal-fired power station in Capivari de Baixo in Santa Catarina state, as part of its wider decarbonisation plans. It may either sell the unit, return it to the federal government, sell it to Centrais Elétricas Brasileiras S.A. - Eletrobrás (BOVESPA:ELET6) or plan a gradual switch-off. The facility can generate 857MW.
The move will be a blow to the economy in the area.
