New CIO appointments, May 2021

Diane Comer named Kaiser Permanente's Chief Information and Technology Officer

Comer, who has served as interim CIO since June 2020, will report directly to Kaiser Permanente chair and CEO Greg Adams. She first joined the large healthcare provider and insurance company in 2007. Prior to joining Kaiser Permanente, Comer held positions at Fireman's Fund Insurance, including chief technology officer. She earned a bachelor's degree in management from Golden Gate University.

Premier Bank welcomes Varun Chandhok as Chief Information Officer

Chandhok brings with him more than 20 years of technology leadership experience in the regional banking sector. He joins the 75-branch Midwest bank from M&T Bank, where he held various leadership positions, including Chief Enterprise Architect, CIO for Commercial / Credit Technology and Head of Consumer Tech delivery. Chandhok earned his BS dual degree in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Administration, and an MS in Industrial Administration with a concentration in Information Technology, Finance & Organizational Behavior from Carnegie Mellon University.

Diogo Rau to join Eli Lilly as SVP and Chief Information and Digital Officer

Rau succeeds Aarti Shah, who is retiring after 27 years with the $22B pharmaceutical company. Rau most recently served as the top executive of information technology for retail and online stores at Apple, Inc. Prior to joining Apple, he was a partner with McKinsey & Company, where he led the North America IT organization and governance practice. Rau graduated from Stanford University with a bachelor's degree in computer science and a master's degree in industrial engineering and engineering management.

The Hanover Insurance Group appoints Willard T. Lee Chief Information Officer

Lee succeeds Mark Berthiaume, who retired last month after seven years at the $5.4B property and casualty insurance company. Lee's title is Executive Vice President, Chief Information and Innovation Officer. Lee joined The Hanover in 2003 and has served in various roles, including Chief Operating Officer of specialty lines, and in 2020 was appointed Senior Vice President, Deputy Chief Information Officer and a member of the senior executive team. Prior to The Hanover, Lee spent more than 10 years as a consultant in both startups and Fortune 500 companies, covering a broad set of industries. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in information systems from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Vision Solar hires Greg Young as CIO

Prior to joining the residential solar services company, Young served as Chief Information Officer and Global Vice President for Hardinge Inc., a global provider of high precision, computer-controlled machine tool solutions. He holds a bachelor's degree in Computer and Information Sciences from Villanova University.

Tivity Health hires Sarah Richardson as Chief Information Officer

Richardson joins Tivity Health from Optum, where she served as CIO for the California and Nevada markets, and most recently, Vice President of IT Change Leadership. Prior to that, Richardson was a division CIO for HCA Healthcare. He earned a BS in Hospitality Administration from University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and an MBA from University of Phoenix.

XPO Logistics announces Sandeep Sakharkar as Chief Information Officer for GXO Logistics spinOff

Sakharkar currently serves as XPO's Senior Vice President, Logistics Technology. Late last year, XPO announced that it would spin off its global contract logistics business (GXO) while keeping its trucking and freight brokerage operations (XPO) as a stand-alone business. Sakharkar will lead GXO's technology organization when the split is completed later this year. Sakharkar's 20-year career includes roles as Global Vice President, Core Retail and Infrastructure with Foot Locker, and EMEA Director of Digital Technology with Johnson & Johnson. He holds a post-graduate certification in management from Warwick University Business School in the UK.

CNH Industrial appoints Marc Kermisch as Chief Information Officer

Kermisch joins global commercial vehicle and equipment manufacturer from OptumRx, a pharmacy benefits management division of United Health Group, Inc., where he was Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. He serves on the Board of Directors of Fairview Health Services, and SALO LLC, a staffing firm. He earned a bachelor's degree in English from University of Wisconsin.

TESSCO Technologies announces Jesse Hillman as Chief Information Officer

Before joining the wireless infrastructure products distributor, he served as Vice President of Information Technology at LightBox, a wireless telecommunications business. Previously, he held CIO and Global Director roles at firms including Imperial Irrigation and the Walt Disney Company. He earned a Bachelor of Business Management from California Lutheran University, an MBA from University of the Incarnate Word, and is currently working to complete his dissertation for his Doctor of Business Administration at Toulouse Business School.

Extreme Networks names John Abel Chief Information Officer

Abel comes to the cloud-driven networking solutions provider from Veritas, where he served as Senior Vice President and CIO. He will be responsible for all aspects of the global IT organization and report to Norman Rice, Chief Operating Officer. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Systems from Staffordshire University in England.

Stateless names Catherine Allshouse to its Board of Directors

Allshouse currently serves as Global CIO and Head of Operations at Veeva Systems, a $1B enterprise software cloud SaaS business serving life sciences and other regulated industries. Prior to Veeva Systems, she held senior technology roles at KnowledgeWorks, Kroger and PeopleSoft. Stateless provides software that helps companies move data between applications and workloads, eliminating the network as a barrier.
