Attacks on organizations' IT infrastructures are at an all-time high and growing. Criminals gain access wherever possible, but they of course try to utilize the easiest way in. In a Technology Spotlight, the International Data Corporation (IDC) says, 'The weak link in any process will always be the one to be exploited. With respect to controlling identities and access, the weak link is the password.' The weak link in corporate passwords is the password-reset process followed by service desks. In most organizations, service desk analysts decide on the user authentication process - where it should be management.

However, a secure, compliant process must live up to the following principles:

  • Process decided on by management
  • Process balances cost and security per user group
  • Multiple authentication options available
  • Information used for authentication must include dynamic, contextual data
  • Managerial approval of users must be an option
  • Option available to remove privileged passwords from the service desk

The issuance and delivery of access codes for applications must be flexible and secure.

With FastPass FPR, companies can now easily obtain a compliant, secure process, reducing the risk of data breaches caused by service desk processes. Service desk analysts will be required to use FastPass FPR when they receive password calls. FPR has an intuitive user interface which helps agents provide high-quality, professional service to end users while following a compliant process.

Combining FastPass FPR with FastPass Self-service Password Reset (SSPR) will provide organizations with a secure, compliant process at a low average cost per password issue since in more than 80% of cases, users will choose the self-service option.
