(Alliance News) - Fincantieri Spa and the Qatari Navy announced Tuesday that they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Doha with the aim of engaging in a dialogue leading to new contracts for the provision of state-of-the-art training and education pathways for Qatari Navy personnel.

The Italian shipbuilding group and the Qatari Navy will continue the dialogue on content and modalities so that Fincantieri can continue to deliver and improve the Italian state-of-the-art education and training modules with the support of the Italian authorities and other partners in the Defense field.

The modules will be based on an innovative education and training approach and the continued growth of the Qatari Navy's maritime capabilities, while ensuring full integration and interoperability with Qatari land and air military capabilities and allied foreign navies.

In June 2016, the Qatar Armed Forces and Fincantieri signed a contract for the construction of seven naval vessels and the provision of In-Service Support, Integrated Logistic Support, technical training for crews and basic maintenance and operational training for crews and language courses for each ship, as well as food, accommodation and related infrastructure.

Fincantieri has already delivered six ships and delivered part of the indicated activities, including part of the training for Qatari Navy personnel.

Following up on the training courses already effectively completed in Italy by Fincantieri, focused on the operation of the Italian Combat System on board the ships and consistent with the training tools already provided, the Qatari Navy is interested in implementing training and education programs for the purpose of maintaining with continuous updates the skills acquired internally.?

Fincantieri's stock is up 0.7 percent at EUR0.58 per share.
