Fletcher Building : Winstone Aggregates acquires The Urban Quarry to extend its circular + recycling solutions offering

The acquisition of The Urban Quarry marks a major milestone of Winstone Aggregates fast track plan to extend its circular & recycling solutions for our customers.

The Urban Quarry, located in Onehunga and Henderson Auckland, provides a dual service of aggregate supply for city-based construction sites while also collecting construction and demolition waste.

"Within the construction industry in New Zealand there is an opportunity to provide more sustainable solutions through increased focused on the circular life cycle of concrete. While there is a degree of recycling undertaken in the industry for construction and demolition waste the reality is that there is still a large proportion that could be diverted from landfill and upcycled back into the construction industry. The trick is capturing sufficient waste quantities at a central point to enable recycling on an efficient scale," says Amanda Croft, GM Winstone Aggregates.

"The Urban Quarry model achieves this, and its acquisition provides a key foundational step in our move to drive a more long-term sustainable position for our industry through recycling and reusing waste concrete.
