GE announces the completion of modernization work on four GE Vernova 9F.03 class gas turbines installed in the 2 GW Sabiya combined-cycle power plant.

Located in Al Jahra (some 50 km from Kuwait City), the Sabiya power plant has a total of six GE Vernova 9F.03 gas turbines and three D11 steam turbines: it is the largest power plant in Kuwait.

GE says the upgrades are part of a wider program by Kuwait's Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy to modernize the country's power generation infrastructure.

The project is expected to increase overall power plant output by up to 6.3% and reduce the heat rate by up to 1.8%, leading to a combined increase in electricity production of up to 70 megawatts (MW).

The upgrades were carried out under a multi-year service agreement between Alghanim International (Kuwait's leading engineering, procurement and construction company) and GE Vernova.
