Best Camera Settings for Snow Shots with GoPro

It's again that time of year when the fun shifts from pedals and paddles to skis and skates, which means wintertime action to capture with your GoPro. GoPro is, after all, your four-season source to capture the perfect footage of all your adventures-whether it's an epic family snowball fight or top-to-bottom turns.
Mainly, it's the best camera for skiing, snowboarding, and all the fun activities waiting to be had in your snowy front yard. But you'll need dial in your settings to film your snow-season adventures, which we're here to help with.
Camera Settings for Snow
So, you've sprung for a new HERO10 Black-great choice! It's got an upgraded GP2 processor and features that take it from being a good action camera choice to the best in the business. Of course, that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with HERO9 Black, which continues to offer leading image quality, HyperSmooth stabilization, TimeWarp features and more. And don't forget the amazing MAX, with its 360° mode, traditional 2D content and 360 time lapses.
But no matter which GoPro you have, there's nothing better for capturing toboggan runs, figure skating champions, snowboard shreds and even Frosty the Snowman's reanimation-with the right settings and equipment.
Start with a standard Protune setup for video:
Bit Rate: High
EV Comp: -0.5
White Balance: Auto (or Specific Temp based on Scene)
ISO Min: 100
ISO Max: 1600
Sharpness: Low
Color: Natural
You can then adjust settings to fit the time of day, conditions and other factors. This lets you establish presets for capturing everything from wicked-fast ski runs to the kids ice skating on the pond in their mittens.
How to Film Skiing + Snowboarding with a GoPro
Ready to bring the fun home from the Ski and snowboarding slopes? Your GoPro's got you covered-with a few equipment additions, that is. First, you'll need a battery that's up for the cold task, which is where the all-new Enduro battery comes in. It not only significantly boosts the performance of your HERO10 or HERO9 in low temperatures, but you also get up to 40% more battery life in moderate conditions too.
From there, you can opt to use a top or side helmet mount to capture skiing and snowboarding from the athlete's point of view, or use the ultra-versatile magnetic clip to mount your camera on your chest, shoulder strap or nearly anywhere else. For all-over snowboarding shots that even allow you to take "action selfies," there's The Handler.
It's then a simple matter of using presets or adjusting settings based on the weather. For action-packed runs, we recommend a combination of stabilization and wide field-of-view to capture video with your HERO10:
Resolution: 5.3K-30 | 4K-60 | 2.7K-120
Lens: WIDE or LINEAR or LINEAR + HL
HyperSmooth: High
PRO TIP: You can shoot video to get photos! That's right, shooting in any of the options above will result in a large enough file size that you can pull frame grabs in the Quik app later on. So you'll slide away with the best photos and videos no matter what.
And while you can't do any better than your GoPro for capturing all your skiing and snowboarding action, it works equally as well for sledding, ice skating, pickup hockey matches and capturing Frosty coming to life.
HERO10 Black for Wintertime Fun
Winter's a time for snowballs to fly, skis to shush and snowboarders to get air-there's no better way to capture the action than HERO10 Black. It's the most powerful GoPro ever and is fast, easy to use and the perfect addition to your wintertime gear.
The memories you'll capture will be priceless!
