Second GrainsConnect Canada site to be built near Wilkie, SaskatchewanGrainsConnect Canada is pleased to announce the location of its second independent, high- speed train loading terminal.
The $30m project will be built near the town of Wilke, 130 kilometres west of Saskatoon in the Rural Municipality of Reford, Saskatchewan.
Similar to the GrainsConnect Canada site under construction in Maymont, Saskatchewan, the site will have 35,000 tonnes of storage capacity with the ability to load 130 rail cars in 10 hours.
GrainsConnect Canada President Warren Stow said: "We are excited to be able to confirm our second facility in Canada. Our objective is to build the most efficient supply chain to the West Coast, bringing much needed choice to the region's grain growers.
"GrainsConnect Canada will give an economic boost to the broader region with at least 50 jobs created during construction as well as 12 - 15 full time jobs once completed. After the positive response to our first site at Maymont, we are confident of a successful project in the RM of Reford.
"GrainsConnect's high-throughput grain terminal and CN's rail network will combine to deliver one of the most efficient grain networks in Western Canada. We would also like to thank the Saskatchewan Provincial Government for their support," Mr Stow said.
Saskatchewan Economy Minister Jeremy Harrison said: "Saskatchewan combines the advantages of being Canada's leading agricultural exporter with possessing one of the most competitive business environments in North America.
"Companies like GrainsConnect see opportunities in our province, and we are working hard to make sure that major investments like these continue to happen across our economy and in communities anywhere in Saskatchewan," Mr Harrison said.
CN vice president, bulk, Doug MacDonald said: "We believe that strong partnerships produce these innovations that will strengthen the grain supply chain in Western Canada. We are proud to say that successful collaboration has led GrainsConnect to choose to build another grain terminal on CN's rail network."
Construction on the site is expected to commence immediately, pending final development approvals with an expected completion date of July, 2018.
