Winterthur says yes to "Werk 1" design plan at Sulzerareal site - Voters give the green light for creating a new mixed-use quarter | Implenia to build Winterthur's first 2000-Watt development

Dietlikon, 8 March 2015 - In today's referendum, Winterthur approved the "Werk 1" design plan with 63.9 percent of votes cast. This marks a significant step in the development of the Sulzerareal site in Winterthur. "We're very pleased with this result and especially about the development of a new quarter on a site with such a rich history," said René Zahnd, Head of Business Unit Modernisation & Development. Over the next few years Implenia will build a new mixed-use, sustainable quarter based on the Werk 1 design plan. Alongside the planned apartments, the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) wants to build its new main premises on the site with Implenia's help. The University, again with Implenia, is also planning a Centre for Health Professions directly next to Werk 1. Werk 1 will be the first 2000 Watt site in Winterthur. The design plan will ensure an architecturally attractive, exciting development with a lot of open space. It will also preserve the historic industrial structures and use high-rise buildings to achieve an appropriate level of densification. Implenia will now work with all the parties involved to gradually realise projects on the new Sulzerareal plots.

The first 2000-Watt quarter in Winterthur is being built on the Werk1 plot over the next few years.
