Intevac, Inc.'s (Company) (Nasdaq:IVAC) wholly owned
subsidiary Intevac Asia Private Ltd. (Intevac Asia) has opened a 3,000
square-meter manufacturing center in Singapore as part of the
Company's plan to expand production capacity and provide more
comprehensive and timely support for customer operations in Asia.
Intevac Asia General Manager Guy Eristoff stated: "The expansion
of Intevac Asia's regional headquarters and manufacturing facilities
represents a milestone and demonstrates Intevac's long-term commitment
to Singapore and the Asian region. Intevac has been established in
Singapore for over ten years. As we thought about where to expand
manufacturing operations, Singapore was the clear choice because of
its proximity to our hard disk drive equipment customers, a business
friendly atmosphere, and its track record of respect for intellectual
property and economic incentives. We worked closely with the Singapore
Economic Development Board in planning this expansion and appreciate
their support and encouragement."
Luke Marusiak, Intevac's chief operating officer, said: "Our new
Singapore plant will initially manufacture advanced deposition sources
for Intevac's 200 Lean(R) media manufacturing system. We are also
placing design engineering staff in our expanded facility to better
support customer enhancements to our products and reduce design cycle
times."
About the 200 Lean
The 200 Lean is Intevac's latest-generation disk sputtering system
that provides significantly enhanced capabilities relative to the
installed base of Intevac(R) MDP-250 systems. The 200 Lean provides
higher throughput from a smaller footprint, which enables more
magnetic disks to be manufactured per square-foot of factory floor
space and is designed to reduce overall cost of ownership. The 200
Lean's flexible and modular design accommodates the production of
multiple disk sizes, both aluminum and glass disks, and the growing
number of thin-film process steps required by evolution toward
advanced technologies such as perpendicular recording.
About Intevac
Intevac is the world's leading supplier of magnetic media
sputtering equipment for the hard disk drive industry and a developer
and provider of leading-edge extreme low-light imaging sensors,
cameras, and systems. For more information call 408-986-9888, or visit

Intevac, Inc. is a provider of thin-film process technology and manufacturing platforms for high-volume manufacturing environments. The Company operates through a single segment, which is Thin Film Equipment (TFE). The TFE segment designs, develops and markets vacuum process equipment solutions for high-volume manufacturing of small substrates with precise thin-film properties, such as for the hard disk drive (HDD) and advanced coatings (ADVC) markets, as well as other adjacent thin-film markets. In HDD Equipment Market, it designs, manufactures, markets and services complex capital equipment used to deposit thin films and lubricants onto substrates to produce magnetic disks. In ADVC Market, the Company develops equipment to deposit optically transparent thin films onto display cover panels typically found on consumer and automotive electronics products. Its products include 200 Lean Disk Sputtering System, TRIO, and upgrades, spares, consumables and services (non-systems business).
