Intuitive Surgical, Inc. announced unaudited consolidated earnings results for the second quarter and six months ended June 30, 2021. For the quarter, the company reported total revenue was $1,464 million against $852.1 million a year ago. Income from operations was $511.2 million against $80.6 million a year ago. Net income was $523 million against $70.2 million a year ago. Basic per share was $4.36 against $0.58 a year ago. Diluted per share was $4.25 against $0.57 a year ago.
For the six months, the company reported total revenue was $2,756.1 million against $1,951.6 million a year ago. Income from operations was $928.0 million against $363.6 million a year ago. Net income was $958.2 million against $386.4 million a year ago. Basic per share was $7.98 against $3.27 a year ago. Diluted per share was $7.77 against $3.19 a year ago.
Intuitive Surgical, Inc. specializes in the design, manufacturing, and marketing of robotic surgical assistance video systems. The systems consist of a surgical console, arm, remote-controlled endoscope, and 3D visual immersion system. Net sales break down by activity as follows:
- sale of instruments and accessories (60%): primarily wrist cuffs;
- sale of robotic systems (23.6%): systems marketed under the da Vinci brand (1,370 units sold in 2023) and intended primarily for urological, cardio-thoracic, and gynecological surgeries;
- installation and training services (16.4%).
The United States accounts for 65.8% of net sales.
