FRANKFURT (dpa-AFX) - Since the beginning of the year, passenger and hand baggage controls at Frankfurt Airport have been reorganized. The airport operator Fraport has taken over the control of the private service providers as well as the procurement of new security technology from the Federal Police. After just under three weeks of operation, Fraport CEO Stefan Schulte, German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) and Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr plan to present the innovations this Friday (09:15). Those involved hope for more efficient passenger handling.

With outdated technology and high fees, German airports had fallen behind in European comparisons in recent years. Frankfurt is the first German airport to take over control from the federal police. Last year, some 16 million boarding passengers and their carry-on luggage were checked here, according to Fraport. In Bavaria, a state authority is responsible for organizing the checks./ceb/DP/nas
