Sports Desk, Apr 21 (EFE).- Rasmus Hojlund scored the decisive penalty as Manchester United beat Coventry City 4-2 in a penalty shoot to reach their record 22nd FA Cup final and set up a tie against city rival Manchester City.

It was heartbreak for Coventry City, who came from 0-3 down to draw level and take the game to extra time, where they nearly won the contest.

Very few people at Wembley were optimistic about the chances of Coventry, a second-tier Championship side that were trailing traditional giant Manchester United by three goals with only 20 minutes left in the contest.

Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire scored in the first half to help United lead 2-0 at the interval before Bruno Fernandes added a third in the second half to all but seal the game.

And there began the story, which could have been one of the greatest fairytales in the history of the competition.

The 34,000 Coventry City fans kept their fingers crossed when Ellis Simms pulled one goal back in the 71st minute.

But when Callum O'Hare's shot from outside the box touched on the back of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and meekly slipped into goal eight minutes later, they started dreaming.

Six added minutes seemed an eternity to United, who conceded a penalty last moment after Aaron Wan-Bissaka's handball and Haji Wright converted it to send Coventry fans into delirium.

In extra time, United's Fernandes and Coventry's Simms hit the crossbar before Victor Torp thought he had won it for the Championship side, only for his goal to be ruled out for offside.

United's Casemiro missed the first penalty in the tiebreaker, but Andre Onana made a fine save off Callum O'Hare to bring them back into the contest.

United came back to pole position again when Coventry captain Ben Sheaf sent his effort high over the crossbar, and Hojlund did the rest.

The final will be a repeat of last year's event when United lost to Manchester City 2-1.

City beat Chelsea 1-0 in the other semifinal on Saturday. EFE
