Mobileye shares are up by more than 5% on the New York Stock Exchange on Wednesday, the driving assistance specialist having won a contract with automotive giant Volkswagen.

Following a 'pilot' phase carried out on German and American roads, Volkswagen ADMT, the German group's autonomous vehicle subsidiary, explains that it has decided to sign a cooperation agreement with Mobileye with a view to putting into production the ID. Buzz AD, its future all-electric self-driving van.

Under the terms of the agreement, Mobileye will be responsible for designing and supplying software, hardware and digital mapping tools for the vehicle.

The collaboration also includes the delivery of an autonomous driving system (SDS) for a special version of the ID. Buzz.

In order to meet the 'Level 4' (high autonomy) standard set by the SAE, Mobileye will have to develop two separate high-performance computers, based on a total of 13 cameras, nine lidar devices and five radars, with the aim of providing a complete 360-degree analysis of the environment.

Volkswagen ADMT plans to bring its electric, autonomous version of the ID. Buzz AD from 2026.
