Johannesburg - Seven hundred learners have benefitted from the latest round of computer training provided in partnership with MTN, through the "Educate a Child, Build a Nation" initiative in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Local and expatriate learners were part of the third phase of the training session, held this past weekend. The session was held in two parts, with the first taking place over three days, and the second carried out for a week in several educational institutions across the UAE.

MTN is a strategic partner of the programme, which is led by Information City, under the chairmanship of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Maktoum BinJuma Al Maktoum.

The initiative seeks to improve computer literacy levels among children in the UAE, aged between 8 and 13 years old.

"MTN is committed to enhancing teaching and learning in our communities through the use of technology. To this end, we are proud to be part of the "Educate a Child, Build a Nation", an initiative that clearly recognises the link between computer literacy and economic development," says Jyoti Desai, MTN Group Chief Technology and Information Officer.

One thousand children have been trained in total since the beginning of 2014. The first phase of the programme saw 150 school children attend a 3-day boot camp on computer skills, while the second phase was specifically directed at female learners, with 150 learners participating.
