Carbon Neutrality (Scope 1 and 2) Achieved at Headquarters and A1 Factory

Nakanishi Inc. (TSE: 7716, President and Group CEO: Eiichi Nakanishi, "NSK") hereby announces that it has achieved carbon neutrality at headquarters and the A1 Factory and acquired an assurance report from a third-party organization to verify this declaration.

Since acquiring ISO 14001 *1 in 1999, NSK, a corporation that is globally active in the dental, surgical and industrial business fields, has maintained a commitment to fostering the belief that companies are dutybound to fulfill their responsibility to society and thereby continued to promote initiatives to realize a sustainable society. Under these circumstances, from December 1, 2021, NSK began introducing initiatives toward achieving "Zero CO2 Manufacturing" *2 by switching 100% of the electricity used at headquarters and A1 Factory to renewable energy generated from solar and wind power. NSK successfully offset greenhouse gas emissions by utilizing carbon credits created under the J-Credit Scheme and achieved carbon neutrality under the GHG Protocol *3 Scope 1 and 2*4 at headquarters and A1 Factory as it proceeded to accumulate initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, including installing solar panels at the new A1+ Factory, updating aging equipment, and expanding the scope of application for eco-friendly product packaging. In addition, NSK acquired third-party assurance confirming that it has achieved Scope 1 and 2 carbon neutrality as provided by SOCOTEC Certification Japan, attained through a verification process based on international standards with reference to the specifications for the demonstration of carbon neutrality (PAS 2060) *5 established by the British Standards Institution (BSI).

*1: International accreditation standard for environmental management systems established by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

*2: Scope 2 carbon neutrality was achieved by switching 100% of the electricity used at the NSK's production sites to renewable energy.

*4: "Scope 1" refers to direct greenhouse gas emissions by the reporting company itself. "Scope 2" refers to indirect emissions from the use of energy (electricity, etc.) provided by others.

NSK is continuing to promote the Green Plan 2030 medium-term plan formulated in 2021. Defining the response to climate change as a matter of utmost importance, NSK determined the reduction target of greenhouse gas emissions from its business activities at domestic production sites (Scope 1 and 2) based on the calculation of greenhouse gas emissions and the results of these calculations and is making steady progress on each relevant initiative in turn. Having achieved Scope 1 and 2 carbon neutrality, NSK will move forward to gradually examine the potential for reducing greenhouse gas emissions throughout the entire supply chain by responding to indirect greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 3) and expanding the scale of focus to include NSK's overseas subsidiaries. NSK will continue to adopt continuing initiatives to realize a sustainable society and carry out the best value exchange with all stakeholders.
