National Grid is delivering a vital gas mains revamp in Petersham Road, Richmond which will help ensure the local community remains safely connected to reliable gas supplies.

Work will begin on Monday 8 June in Petersham Road between the junctions with Star and Garter Hill and Cedar Heights, around the area of Petersham Nurseries, Dysart Arms and St. Peter's Church.

To enable this essential work to be carried out, a three-way traffic light management system will be implemented, the use of two bus stops will be suspended and a temporary pedestrian crossing will be put in place for the duration of the work.

The work involves replacing the existing ageing metallic gas mains with tough, new long-lasting pipes which should last for decades.

Shaun Park, National Grid principle engineer said: "This is a major project for the local area but we will do our best to keep noise and disruption to a minimum. Local businesses should allow extra time for deliveries and where possible rearrange them for outwith peak traffic times.

"Access to local businesses will be maintained at all times and we plan to work extended hours during the week and at the weekend to ensure the job is completed on time."

He added: "It's our job to ensure homes and businesses remain connected to a safe and reliable gas supply and that's exactly what this project will do for local people."
