This week, we celebrated National Apprenticeship Week - an annual event which focuses on apprenticeships and promotes their benefits.

Two of our apprentices, Braedan Youngs, engineering apprentice and Kirsty Antcliffe, commercial apprentice participated in live interviews on the Learn Live platform which has been broadcasting apprentices' experiences throughout the week.

The opportunity to take part in this Learn Live event was via Highways England's Regional Delivery Partnership (RDP) Framework's, 'People Task and Finish Group'.

As part of collaborative working with other Highways England Framework Partners, the People Task and Finish Group is working to an agreed 12 month calendar of joint activities to jointly promote community engagement within the geographical regional areas of the RDP framework.

As part of further engagement, and to inspire more young people to consider an apprenticeship in the construction industry, Learn Live also included live Q&A sessions so that participants could fully engage and ask any questions they may have about what it is really like to work in construction.

Braedan, Engineering Apprentice from our Water team, said, 'Being interviewed took me out of my comfort zone, but I do like to do things that challenge me.'

Kirsty, Commercial Apprentice from our Built Environment team, said, 'I have talked to schools in the past about careers and opportunities in construction. Participating in this week was an easy choice for me - I think it's really important to engage with students that are choosing their career and further education decisions.'

Andy Carson, nmcn's Operations Director in Infrastructure, and Chair of Highways England's Regional Delivery Partnership (RDP) Framework's, 'People Task and Finish Group', added : 'We thoroughly enjoyed taking part in this event alongside our RDP framework partners. The calendar of activities we have planned as a Group align very well with nmcn's own Positive Impact Plan which is committed to supporting our communities and the next generation. We look forward to combining forces on other events during the year to maximise the benefit to students'.
