Building Construction
Obayashi Corporation (hereinafter "the Company") in a joint venture with Built Pty Ltd. has been awarded to construct the world's tallest hybrid-timber building, with a height of 182 meters and 39 floors. The contract has been awarded by Dexus, one of Australia's leading real estate groups.
Atlassian Central will be constructed in Sydney, New South Wales. The building will be developed as a mixed-use complex that is made up of office, accommodation and retail space, and will become the landmark of Sydney's innovation and technology precinct, Tech Central precinct. The 7th floor and above will be the hybrid-timber structure combination of steel frames and cross-laminated timber(CLT)(*1).
The building is designed to achieve the highest levels of green building certifications, such as LEED and WELL, and also targets the reduction of embodied carbon by 50% or more during the construction period. Once the building is completed, it will be operated with 100% renewable energy.
The Company has actively engaged in construction of wooden buildings, including fully-wooden and fire-resistant high-rise structure Port Plus®, in which all the structural components of superstructure are made of timber. The Company aims to achieve a sustainable society by expanding and promoting the use of recyclable resources such as timber and wooden materials.
By applying the knowledge gained from fully-wooden construction experience on to wooden hybrid structures, the Company aims to further promote wooden buildings, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, and provide comfortable built environments, that would lead to resolve social issues related to carbon neutrality and well-being.
