In keeping with its ongoing commitment to the community it serves, Ooredoo's CSR programme, 'Goodwill' launched into action to help those most affected by Cyclone Shaheen. During and after the storm, over 70 volunteers from the Ooredoo family came together to first donate essential food and cleaning supplies to residents in Al Suwaiq, Saham, Al Khabora and Al Musanah, followed by supporting on-ground efforts to clean up roads and homes in the areas affected. While at the same time technical teams were deployed across Muscat and Al Batinah governorates to restore sites affected by the storm and ensure the network was operating with minimal disruption. In addition, ensuring families stayed connected with their loved ones, the telecoms company offered unlimited WhatsApp data for three days in the areas affected.
Ooredoo tied up with Oman's Charitable Organisation and Dar Al Atta, to raise funds to support those in need, while also donating electronic devices, such as laptops, school bags and necessary household items. All profits made through the recent iPhone 13 launch will be donated to families in the Al Batinah region who were affected by Cyclone Shaheen.
Raed Mohammed Dawood, Director of Branding, Communications and Corporate Affairs at Ooredoo, said, "At Ooredoo, we continuously stand by the people in Oman, and more so as we recover from the damages caused by the cyclone, that left many without homes, food and even water. As an integral part of the Omani community, we whole-heartedly launched a number of initiatives, as we believe together, we can rebuild the communities once again."
Always placing itself at the centre of the community since 2005, Ooredoo Goodwill has become a strategic and important pillar in the company's CSR programme. By helping thousands of individuals across the Sultanate, Ooredoo's efforts were recently recognised with the win of the Golden Stevie Middle East Award for its ongoing commitment to support the sustainable development of communities across the country.
