Peab has been commissioned to rebuild and renovate the former prison in Härnösand. The customer is Intea Fastigheter and the contract is worth SEK 157 million.

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service plans to reopen the prison in Härnösand. Intea Fastigheter owns the building and has awarded Peab the contract to refit the premises to meet current security class 2 standards and prepare space for the national transportation unit (NTE). The project includes rebuilding and renovating the facility - parts of which date back to the 1800s - to suit the incoming operations as well as maintenance work on the facade and roof.

"This is an exceptional project. We're pleased to have been entrusted with it and look forward to taking on this work together with everyone involved. The prison has more than 100 years of history and with that perspective it's really great that the building will be taken of and put to good use," says Fredrik Timan, Region Manager Peab.

"This is an extensive project with a lot of exciting challenges. It's an older building that is going to be quickly modernized. We look forward to working together with Peab and being able to reopen the prison in Härnösand soon," says Jerker Häggström, MD of Intea Östersund.

The project is a turnkey contract in partnering. Construction will start in August 2021 and is expected to be completed during the second quarter 2022.

The project will be order registered in the third quarter 2021.
