SYDNEY--A union representing Rio Tinto PLC workers at its Kitimat aluminum smelter and Kemano power operations in British Columbia, Canada, has issued a notice to strike amid labor negotiations.

The strike is due to begin July 24, a bulletin published by Unifor Local 2301 said while highlighting concerns over job security and the use temporary employees, among other issues.

A Rio Tinto spokesman said the miner "is committed to working with the union to reach a mutually beneficial outcome to the ongoing bargaining process."
