Ross Stores Inc. said Wednesday it has promoted Adam Orvos, who currently oversees the company's supply chain, to chief financial officer effective Oct. 1.

Ross said in a release that Mr. Orvos has 34 years of retail management experience, including serving as finance chief of Neiman Marcus, Belk Department Stores and a division of The May Department Stores Co. Mr. Orvos joined the retailer in January as group senior vice president of supply chain administration.

"Adam is a talented senior executive who brings numerous years of financial leadership and a broad operational background to his new position of CFO for Ross," Chief Executive Barbara Rentler said in prepared remarks.

In July, Ross said that Travis Marquette had resigned as its finance chief to accept a position with another company. Mr. Marquette is now the chief operating officer at Burlington Stores Inc.

Following Mr. Marquette's departure from Ross, the company's finance executives have reported to Operating Chief Michael Hartshorn.
