COLOGNE (dpa-AFX) - After a delay, RTL Deutschland is now introducing a multimedia app for all entertainment offerings. Series, reality, live sports and movies, the areas of music, podcasts, hor books and, in the next few weeks, magazines will thus be available in one place. To this end, the streaming platform RTL+ is now offering an all-inclusive entertainment package, as RTL Deutschland announced in Koln on Wednesday. The TV group starts on the market with a monthly price of 12.99 euros for the multimedia package.

RTL Deutschland had taken over the magazine division of the Hamburg publishing house Gruner + Jahr in 2022 and wants to create synergies in content between the houses. RTL Deutschland also exploits synergies with the book publishing group Penguin Random House. All these divisions - including RTL - are part of Bertelsmann's portfolio in Gütersloh.

RTL Deutschland, which like many other media companies is clearly feeling the effects of the slump in the advertising market, wants to create a multimedia app that will set it apart from the streaming platforms of other media companies, which focus primarily on moving images.

For example, the digital editions of the Gruner + Jahr magazines "Brigitte," "Gala," "Schoner Wohnen," "Häuser," "Couch," "Geolino" and "Geolino Mini" will soon be available in the newly created magazine section of the platform.

RTL Deutschland had actually wanted to launch the multimedia app earlier. Then the company had initially introduced its own music app alongside its existing streaming moving-picture offering. There is a cooperation with the French music streaming service Deezer for this.

Asked about the reasons for the delay for the multimedia app that has now been launched, the TV group said: "We haven't had an app like this before and the development is complex. Because we've completely rebuilt our systems and want to deliver a clean experience at the same time, we've taken the time necessary to set this up thoroughly."

In Germany, RTL Deutschland now has about 4.5 million paying streaming subscribers.

RTL+'s rate structure will not change, it added. There will continue to be several offers - in addition to a free area, among others, the premium subscription (6.99 euros)./rin/DP/mis
