To secure the long-term supply of Hurth households with district heating, Stadtwerke and RWE Power have extended their supply contract for a further three years.

The energy company will therefore feed heat from its Knapsacker Hugel power plant into the municipal district heating network at least until the end of 2023.

Optionally, both partners can extend the supply contract until the end of 2025. The new agreement was signed by Stefan Welsch, Member of the Management Board of Stadtwerke Hurth, and Karl-Heinz Stauten, Head of the Finishing Business Unit at RWE Power AG.

The district heating supply contract concluded provides for the provision of a theoretical heating output of up to 120 megawatts. The heat is generated in the RWE Power plants using what is known as combined heat and power. The simultaneous production of steam and electricity uses the energy sources used efficiently and achieves high levels of efficiency.

'Our district heating is available nationwide in almost all corners of the city of Hurth. We are consistently developing the network and winning new customers. That is why we need a high level of security of supply and are pleased that we are continuing our long-term cooperation with RWE Power, 'said Stadtwerke Board Member Stefan Welsch.

'To ensure security of supply for the people of Hurth, four power plants with modern fluidized bed combustion are available on Knapsacker Hugel. For many years they have been producing demand-based steam for industrial and municipal customers in the city as well as for supplying our refining systems. When it comes to environmental protection and security of supply, you can rely on their technology. The industrial site Knapsacker Hugel secures jobs and added value in the city area, 'explained Karl-Heinz Stauten.
