ESSEN/ZAMUDIO (dpa-AFX) - Energy group RWE and wind turbine manufacturer Siemens Gamesa have signed a framework agreement for the supply of onshore turbines. RWE plans to build onshore wind farms in Europe with a total capacity of 1000 megawatts using Siemens Gamesa turbines by 2027, RWE announced in Essen on Tuesday. Siemens Gamesa will thus become a leading supplier of large-scale components for RWE's project pipeline. Financial details were not disclosed.

RWE will mainly use the new 5.X land turbine, it added. In addition, a service contract for the wind turbines is to follow, which will enable RWE to carry out maintenance and inspections successively on its own. RWE and Siemens Gamesa have been working together for years, and the Essen-based company is one of the most important customers of the Siemens Energy subsidiary. Just at the beginning of the year, RWE selected Siemens Gamesa as the preferred supplier for its 1,000-megawatt Thor wind farm in the Danish North Sea./nas/mne/tih
