Iberdrola SA said Tuesday that through its U.K. subsidiary ScottishPower Renewables, it has picked Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA to supply and install offshore wind turbines for the East Anglia Hub in the North Sea.

The Spanish energy company said more than 200 next generation turbines of 14 megawatts are planned for the hub, which comprises three separate windfarms.

ScottishPower Renewables and Siemens Gamesa will work together ahead of the next contracts-for-difference auction--set to take place later in the year--to optimise projects in order to secure turbine supply and installation agreements. The contracts-for-difference scheme was set up by the U.K. government to incentivize investment in low-carbon electricity generation by protecting project developers from volatile wholesale prices.

"The East Anglia Hub projects have the potential to deliver more than 7.5% of the UK's 40-gigawatts target for offshore wind generation by 2030 as set out in the Government's Ten Point Plan," Iberdrola said.
