IDC announced today that it has opened its nominations for the 2022 Smart City Asia/Pacific Awards (SCAPA).

Running on its eighth year, SCAPA recognizes the top smart city initiatives of deserving agencies - private or public - that have excelled across 14 Smart City functional eService categories using the IDC Smart City Development Index framework and provides a forum for best practice sharing to help accelerate Smart City development in the region.

'Asia Pacific cities will be focused on digitally-enabled innovations that will spur socioeconomic activities and bring about a return of investments to transform the 'live, learn, work, and play' dynamics of local communities and urbanized hubs. With each digital investment, privacy and security management are becoming a forefront consideration as city governments seek to safeguard and protect the interests of their investors and constituents,' according to Gerald Wang, Head of Public Sector Research, IDC Asia/Pacific.

This will use a fixed-schedule and/or role-based model increasing spending on smart workspaces to balance health, energy use, and service delivery, thereby changing the 'live, learn, work, and play' dynamics of smart city ecosystems. Lastly, more smart cities will use more immersive visualizations tools and next-generation analytics such as digital twins for sustainability and efficiency improvements and to gather operational data to meet climate targets,' adds Wang.

All shortlisted smart city projects will be up for public voting, which will be announced later in March 2022 via the IDC Smart City Website, IDC Smart City Facebook Page, and IDC AP Twitter. IDC SCAPA 2021 will kick off the new wave of smart cities initiatives as the world moves toward the Next Normal.
