LAKE FOREST, Calif. (AP) _ Staar Surgical Co. (STAA) on Wednesday reported second-quarter net income of $8.6 million, after reporting a loss in the same period a year earlier.

On a per-share basis, the Lake Forest, California-based company said it had profit of 17 cents. Earnings, adjusted for stock option expense and non-recurring costs, came to 27 cents per share.

The maker of implantable lenses posted revenue of $62.4 million in the period, surpassing Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $53.3 million.

Staar Surgical expects full-year revenue in the range of $227 million to $230 million.

Staar Surgical shares have risen 63% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $129.14, more than doubling in the last 12 months.
