FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) _ Steel Dynamics Inc. (STLD) on Monday reported fourth-quarter profit of $1.09 billion.

On a per-share basis, the Fort Wayne, Indiana-based company said it had profit of $5.49. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were $5.78 per share.

The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $5.73 per share.

The steel producer and metals recycler posted revenue of $5.31 billion in the period, which also beat Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $5.22 billion.

For the year, the company reported profit of $3.21 billion, or $15.56 per share. Revenue was reported as $18.41 billion.
