Stockland has started construction on a new townhome community, Oak Place, which will deliver more diverse, affordable and sustainable housing in the established suburb of Wantirna, approximately 35 kilometres east of Melbourne's CBD.

Oak Place will be Stockland's first all-electric (gas-free) townhome community in Victoria, close to the existing shopping, business and transport hubs around the Knox area. Once complete, the community will consist of 303 architecturally designed two, three and four bedroom townhomes.

To mark the start of construction, Stockland was today joined by the Victorian Minister for Planning and Minister for the Suburbs, the Hon. Sonya Kilkenny MP and Wurundjeri Elder Uncle Ringo Terrick, who performed the Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony.

Minister Kilkenny said, "Oak Place is another great example of what the Victorian Government's Housing Statement is all about, delivering more types of homes right where people need them - close to jobs, transport, and services."

Stockland General Manager, Communities Victoria, David Allington said Oak Place provides the community with more sustainable townhome options in an established area.

"Our vision at Stockland is to be the leading creator and curator of connected communities, and this is underpinned by our purpose - a better way to live. StocklandOak Place is an innovative example of how existing urban space can be repurposed into a community that will be full of energy, soul and life, while keeping sustainability at the forefront of our design," Mr Allington said.

"Stockland's ESG strategy is focused on innovation, scale and economically sustainable solutions. Each townhome will be built using lower-carbon construction materials, like timber frames and green concrete, and will have a minimum average 7-Star NatHERS rating. Residents have the opportunity to save on their utility bills through features like cool roofs, solar panels, and induction cooktops.

"There are plans being developed for a central neighbourhood park within walking distance of each townhome, which will include a playground with equipment and a shaded picnic area. Throughout the community, there are also plans for smaller green spaces and walking tracks," Mr Allington added.

The townhomes at Oak Place are situated and designed to make the most of the natural light and heat of the sun, with solar panels included as standard. All townhomes will have either a rainwater tank or a solar-boosted hot water service, double glazing on all windows, and cool roofs painted with a light colour to reflect solar radiation and reduce heat transfer.

The new Oak Place community will be adjacent to the proposed Wantirna Health Precinct, which is expected to include a new public hospital and other medical services.

Stockland purchased the site, formerly a caravan park, three years after it was closed by the previous owner.

The townhomes have been architecturally designed by Rothelowman, with Burbank and ABN Group appointed as the builders for Stage 1.

The first townhomes at Stockland Oak Place will be released on Saturday 27 April 2024, with more than 1,000 enquiries already from potential buyers.
