TDK Corporation reported earnings results for the third quarter and nine months ended December 31, 2023. For the third quarter, the company reported sales was JPY 559,250 million compared to JPY 586,972 million a year ago. Net income was JPY 65,303 million compared to JPY 49,924 million a year ago. Basic earnings per share from continuing operations was JPY 172.14 compared to JPY 131.64 a year ago. Diluted earnings per share from continuing operations was JPY 171.88 compared to JPY 131.42 a year ago.
For the nine months, sales was JPY 1,618,961 million compared to JPY 1,708,965 million a year ago. Net income was JPY 119,491 million compared to JPY 136,875 million a year ago. Basic earnings per share from continuing operations was JPY 315.01 compared to JPY 361.06 a year ago. Diluted earnings per share from continuing operations was JPY 314.52 compared to JPY 360.37 a year ago.
TDK Corporation specialises in the design, manufacture and sales of electronic products and recording equipment. Net sales break down by family product as follows:
- rechargeable batteries and energy converters (46.9%);
- electronic equipment and components (33.1%): ceramic capacitors, ferrites, magnets, inductors, high-frequency components, transformers, converters, thermistors, etc.;
- recording equipment (13.5%): recording appliances (notably magnetic heads for hard disks, heads for disk drives and thermal printer heads), recording equipment (audio and video cassettes, optical disks, computer data storage tapes, PC cards, etc.);
- other (3.5%): rechargeable batteries, memory cards, displays and mechatronic equipment.
Net sales break down geographically as follows: Japan (8%), China (56.8%), Asia (18.7%), Europe (10%) and Americas (6.5%).
