Precise cooling technology for urban e-mobility applications: technotrans SE will present their battery cooling system for electric buses at this year's Busworld Europe in Brussels on 18 October to 23 October. In addition, the company will also showcase their cooling solutions for charging stations. The presentation will focus on the problem-solving expertise of the company from Sassenberg that can design and adapt its systems very precisely in view of the battery power and restricted space.

Electromobility is a current trend in the public bus transport sector and will remain an important market in the future. 'In view of unabating climate change, e-mobility is essential for a sustainable infrastructure. Our cooling systems ensure that the related concepts can come to fruition in a practice-oriented and cost-effective manner,' explains Christian Walczyk, head of sales of industrial solutions at technotrans.

At the Busworld 2019 trade fair, visitors can get a first-hand impression of the energy-efficient cooling and temperature control systems made by technotrans for mobile energy storage devices such as lithium-ion batteries. In addition, the company will also showcase stationary cooling systems for battery charging stations, converters and battery containers.

Constant power for mobile energy storage devices
The temperature of the lithium-ion batteries used in electric vehicles is an essential factor for the power and service life of the batteries. The reliable cooling units of the technotrans modular zeta.line series offer an important advantage: Due to their compact design, they can be integrated into the vehicles in combination with the energy storage device. The batteries are cooled with water or air either actively by way of a compressor or passively in a particularly energy-saving manner with ambient air.

Furthermore, the cooling systems are adapted to the specific requirements of the battery manufacturers and bus manufacturers. 'The design of the batteries and, therefore, also the design of the cooling systems is a highly precise process which must be strictly adapted to the specific requirements,' explains Walczyk. Electric buses used for public transport, for example, have fixed routes that are used for selecting the appropriate battery power and cooling setup. However, these specific operational profiles not only include the distance travelled, but also the elevation profiles. When the bus needs to negotiate a difference in height on its route, e.g. when travelling over a bridge, the (cooling) power required in this situation is higher than when on level ground.

Efficient cooling solutions for stationary applications
Apart from mobile cooling units, technotrans will also present stationary solutions for charging stations and converters. These cooling systems are usually based on glycol recoolers, since the required cooling level enables the use of free cooling methods. These applications enable compact integration into or onto existing housing designs and, in the sound-optimised version, they achieve a cooling capacity up to 900 kW.

You can find technotrans at the Busworld 2019 trade fair in hall 5 at stand 526.
