Thales and its main partner MiTAC Information Technology will design and implement a more modern ticketing system, as well as refurbish Taipei Mass Rapid Transit's (TRTC) automatic fare collection equipment.
The 2 partners will deploy multiple electronic payment options in 120 Taipei subway stations.
The new system will integrate fare payment by EMV cards, including VISA, MasterCard, American Express and JCB, as well as QR codes such as TRTC SJQR and other third-party QR codes (LinePay Money Transit QR, EasyCard Transit QR, iCash Transit QR).
Currently, the only options available are contactless tokens/tickets issued at ticket counters or by ATMs, and contactless cash reserve cards (Easycard, iCash and iPass).
' This contract strengthens Thales' position in the Taiwanese transport market, with the support and confidence of a customer who has been our partner for a long time. We look forward to contributing to many more successes in the future, and to demonstrating our expertise. said Jean-Marc Reynaud, Vice President, Ticketing Systems, Thales.
