Sherwin-Williams Co. President and Chief Operating Officer David B. Sewell will resign from the company this month, the Cleveland-based paint and coatings maker said Monday.

Mr. Sewell will leave his job on March 12 to become chief executive of a company in a different industry, Sherwin-Williams said.

Mr. Sewell had worked at Sherwin-Williams for 14 years. His post will not be filled immediately, the company said; John G. Morikis, the chairman and CEO, will take on the additional role of president and will assume Mr. Sewell's responsibilities.
