WALTHAM, Mass. (AP) _ Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. (TMO) on Thursday reported second-quarter net income of $1.66 billion.

The Waltham, Massachusetts-based company said it had profit of $4.22 per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were $5.51 per share.

The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of nine analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $4.92 per share.

The maker of scientific instrument and laboratory supplies posted revenue of $10.97 billion in the period, which also beat Street forecasts. Seven analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $9.84 billion.
