Vale Indonesia Tbk (PT Vale) won two awards at the Award of Good Implementations of Mineral and Coal Mining Engineering Principles in 2020 (Minerba Award 2020) which was held by the Directorate General of Mineral and Coal-Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources on September 29, 2020.
The two titles are Aditama award (Gold/First Rank) in Mining Environmental Management for the Category of Contract of Work (KK) Holders and Special Mining Business Permits (IUPK) and Utama award (Silver/Second Rank) in Mining Technical Management for the Category of Mineral Commodity Mining Group.
The two awards were ginven to PT Vale who meets five main criteria of assessment, namely management of mining environment, management of work safety aspects, technical standardization and mining management as well as conservation aspects.
President Director and CEO of PT Vale Nico Kanter said that these awards are the result of hard work from all elements at PT Vale and the Company's consistency in implementing sustainable mining.
'This achievement is the result of joint efforts in our Company that continually strive to innovate and make improvements in all aspects. The award given by the government is very meaningful for PT Vale because it is an appreciation for our means in implementing good mining practices and carrying out mining operation principles which are in line with the standards and regulations set by the Indonesian Government,' said Nico Kanter.
This virtual awarding ceremnony was of event series of commemoration of the 75th Indonesian Mining and Energy Day. It constitutes Government's appreciation to provide motivation for mining companies in Indonesia to carry out good mining practices.
In his remarks, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif said that this activity was to balance the dominant public opinion stating that mining is the main cause of natural and environmental damage. 'I hope this performance appraisal will balance public's opinion. I also hope that all mining business entities can become role models for the proper and correct application of mineral and coal mining principles,' said Arifin Tasrif.
Meanwhile, the Director General of Mineral and Coal at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ridwan Djamaluddin, in his remarks said that the event-which is routinely held every year-is the culmination of performance appraisals sequence which is ended with the awarding event to business entities and mining services who are entitled to receive the awards.
The Award of Good Implementations of Mineral and Coal Mining Engineering Principles in 2020 (Minerba Award 2020) is an activity of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. The recognition is a way of thanking the mining companies that implement good practices in their activities.
ESDM Minister Arifin Tasrif said that this recognition is expected to be a benchmark for other entities to create safe working conditions and protect the environment in order to carry out sustainable mining practices.
