VSPT Wine Group becomes a Gold Member of IWCA

Wednesday February 22nd, 2023

Thanks to its commitment and actions to reduce its carbon footprint, VSPT Wine Group, which ranks among the top 20 wine companies around the world, has been promoted to the prestigious category of Gold Members of the International Wineries for Climate Action (IWCA).

The IWCA is a collaborative working group that brings together wineries from around the world that are committed to the environment and have adopted a science-based approach to reduce carbon emissions across the wine industry.

VSPT has achieved Gold status due to its rigorous climate action standards; the fact that it can power at least 20% of the energy needs of its winemaking operations using onsite renewable energy - thermal and electric; and because it has achieved a sustained reduction in its greenhouse gas emissions in line with the commitments established with IWCA. This comes after having already reduced its CO2 emissions by 6.8% between 2019 and 2021.

Speaking about this milestone, Carolina Gotuzzo, VSPT Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Director, said "we are honoured by this recognition of our efforts. We are a large group with complex processes and operations in the most renowned valleys in Chile and Argentina. Being an IWCA Gold Member certainly encourages us to continue progress on this great challenge, which involves commitment from all those who are part of VSPT and the value chain".

Since it became a silver-level member of the organization in 2020, VSPT has been committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050, developing a model specializing in the use of renewable energy, ecodesign throughout the portfolio, agricultural management strategies and a waste management plan at all production sites.

"The recognition lends a sense of urgency to our continued efforts to improve and innovate regarding our decarbonization strategy by setting increasingly ambitious, challenging goals from the vineyard to the bottle", concluded Carolina Gotuzzo.
