In the Netherlands last year, Viaplay grew to over one million subscribers. Internationally, the customer base increased by 83 percent to 7.3 million.

show that the Netherlands and Poland are responsible for a significant portion of the new, Swedish streaming service's revenue. Both countries had 1.2 million subscribers as of Dec. 31, 2022, accounting for one-third of the customer base.

In the fourth quarter alone, Viaplay gained 890,000 new customers. Of those, 396,000 in the Nordics and 494 in the rest of Europe.

CEO Anders Jensen's company operates in 10 European countries and is pursuing an expansion strategy in Australia, North and South America. This is so fledgling that there is nothing on the books yet. In total, Jensen operates in 30 countries, either through distribution partners or directly. He expects the non-Scandinavian business to be profitable by 2024. That's a year earlier than expected.

The streaming service's revenue grew 59 percent to 626 million euros in 2022. Under the line there were black figures, but the board decided not to pay out the 32 million dividend for shareholders. That money will be invested in international service expansion.

Viaplay is known for the many sports rights it operates, such as Formula One and foreign soccer. However, it also streams a wide range of series and movies. In 2022, 126 Viaplay Originals went live on the platform. For the current year, 130 titles are planned.

Viaplay is aiming for around 12 million subscribers by the end of 2025. For 2023, the bar is nine million subscribers in total, four million of which are outside the traditional home market.

Should the Swedes wish to expand their services to France, they can jump into the gap left by Salto. This joint company of TF1, M6 and France Télévisions was supposed to compete with Netflix since 2019, but that threw in the yesterday.
