ARIZONA, Calif. (AP) _ Viavi Solutions Inc. (VIAV) on Thursday reported a fiscal fourth-quarter loss of $1.9 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.

On a per-share basis, the Arizona, California-based company said it had a loss of 1 cent. Earnings, adjusted for pretax expenses and amortization costs, were 22 cents per share.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 19 cents per share.

The communications equipment company posted revenue of $310.9 million in the period, also topping Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $302.4 million.

For the year, the company reported profit of $46.1 million, or 20 cents per share. Revenue was reported as $1.2 billion.

For the current quarter ending in October, Viav Solutions expects its per-share earnings to range from 20 cents to 22 cents.

The company said it expects revenue in the range of $303 million to $317 million for the fiscal first quarter.

Viav Solutions shares have risen nearly 6% since the beginning of the year.
