Volkswagen has announced that PowerCo, its battery company, has confirmed the "beyond expectations" results of its American partner QuantumScape's solid-state battery, also known as a "solid-state battery".

The latter is said to retain over 95% of its capacity after more than 1,000 recharge cycles, suggesting a potential range for electric car batteries of over 500,000 km without any noticeable loss.

Semiconductors are now seen as the technology of the future, representing the next revolution in battery technology. This technology promises increased autonomy, faster recharging times and optimal safety", emphasizes Frank Blome, CEO of PowerCo.

According to him, these 'very encouraging' results mark 'a further step towards [a] goal of mass production of solid-state cells'.

'We are working relentlessly with our partner QuantumScape towards mass production', he added.
