The bank earned $4.6 billion in the first quarter, down 7% from about $5 billion in the same quarter a year ago. On a per-share basis, earnings declined to $1.20 per share. The San Francisco bank's total revenue for the quarter rose about 1% to $20.86 billion. Analysts were expecting earnings to fall to $1.06 a share, with a 2.5% decline in revenue to $20.19 billion.
