Zoom for Government Achieves DoD Impact Level 4 (IL4): Everything You Need to Know

We are proud to announce that Zoom for Government has received Provisional Authorization (PA) from the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) for the Department of Defense (DoD) at Impact Level 4 (IL4). In 2021, the platform achieved an Authorization to Operate with Conditions (ATO-C) from the Department of the Air Force for conducting IL4 meetings.

These attestations to the Zoom for Government platform show our commitment to secure communication and collaboration across the Department of Defense, and with mission partners in the industry. These two inter-related attestations provide the authorization needed for the wide use of Zoom across the DoD.

DISA IL4 provisional authorization

As the DoD adopts commercial cloud capabilities, DISA helps service providers and DoD mission owners work together to provisionally authorize a cloud service offering. With a PA, a service will operate through the Non-classified Internet Protocol Router Network (NIPRNet), which is the DoD network for exchanging "sensitive but unclassified" information.

With this PA, the entire Zoom for Government platform, which includes Zoom Meetings, Zoom Phone, Zoom Chat, Zoom Webinar, Zoom Rooms, and the Zoom client, will be available for use for those organizations in need of IL4-authorized solutions.

This PA from DISA is relevant to all of the Department of Defense, including the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Marines, and other DoD agencies.

ATO-C from the Department of the Air Force

Zoom for Government has also already received an ATO-C for DoD IL4 from our service sponsor the Department of the Air Force. This permits, with conditions (host responsibilities and settings), the use of Zoom for Government at Impact Level 4 without the reliance on the NIPRnet (via the internet), provided that the host administers the conditions set forth by the authorizing official (AO) in the ATO-C.

The Air Force's ATO-C approval allows for internet-facing IL4 communication, which extends the Air Force's - and other missions that require an IL4 ATO-C - capability to interact with other federal agencies, system integrators, contractors, and other mission partners. The conditions outlined in the ATO-C provide the guidelines and settings for initiating and maintaining an IL4 meeting.

The Air Force ATO-C allows for IL4 collaboration via Zoom for Government meetings for content involving Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) and For Official Use Only (FOUO).

Seamless and secure solutions for your mission

Although it is designed for federal agencies, Zoom for Government is also available to U.S. state and local government customers and approved contractors that support their mission. Zoom for Government leverages the AWS GovCloud infrastructure and U.S.-based co-located data centers.

These IL4-related announcements build on Zoom's ongoing commitment to support the U.S. federal government. We are honored to be a trusted partner for communication, collaboration, and continuity of operations across the federal government. Since early 2019, Zoom for Government has been authorized at the FedRAMP Moderate Level. Zoom for Government also supports the required CJIS controls and helps to support HIPAA compliance.
