Zorlu Enerji completes preliminary licenses for WPP with Storage

Zorlu Enerji generates 100% of its electricity in its Turkey operations from renewable energy sources. Now, with the Yeniçiftlik WPP (Wind Power Plant) in Tekirdağ and Hamitabat WPP in Kırklareli, Zorlu Enerji will have the first electricity generation facility with storage in its portfolio. Thanks to its future investments enabled by completing preliminary licenses, Zorlu Enerji will have a total of 375 MWe of wind power with storage.

Energy storage systems will play a leading role in the energy-driven world of the future. They will support balancing the supply-demand by storing excess energy produced during high-production periods and making this energy available during low-production periods. This will provide a more consistent and reliable power supply in the long term by supporting the most efficient use of renewable resources and balancing energy supply demand.

Zorlu Enerji's preliminary application for two different wind farms with storage has been approved by EMRA (Energy Market Regulatory Authority). Ali Kındap, Zorlu Enerji General Manager Responsible for Investments, Operations, and Maintenance, commented: "Our efforts continue to increase the share of our renewable energy portfolio and improve resource diversity. Thanks to our Wind Power Plants with Storage to be established, we aim to utilize renewable energy resources at the maximum level and strengthen our country's progress towards energy efficiency. We know that the storage systems to be realized will also contribute significantly to the development of battery technologies. At the same time, we are taking another vital step towards combating the climate crisis and creating a sustainable future. When completed, our wind power plants with storage will prevent the 532 thousand tons of carbon dioxide emission, which refers to 24 million trees' annual CO2 emissions. With the energy we will generate from our two power plants, we will supply the electricity of more than 328,000 households annually from renewable sources."
