The City Gallery in Hong Kong, managed by the city's planning department, recently unveiled a 110-inch wide interactive rolling map to allow visitors to see how the coastline and skyline of the city have changed since the 1840s, according to a press release. By selecting highlighted areas on the map, visitors can see audiovisual animations explaining why certain streets were given their names.

Wide Smart Technology, a local professional audio and visual specialist, created the design concept for the interactive exhibit in partnership with AV network designers and Zytronic PLC, a U.K. based touch technology provider.

For the surface of the exhibit, the company designed a piece of 110-inch tempered glass under which two 55-inch displays mounted end to end showcase the content.

Wide Smart Technology partnered with ASPIS Innovation Solutions, which develops interactive solutions, and serves as the Hong Kong distributor for U.K. based Zytronic.

ASPIS laminated two pieces of 55-inch ZyFilm to the back of the locally-sourced glass. There is just an 8mm gap between the two adjacent touch sensors and, by using Zytronic's ZXY500 multitouch controller, the company was able to calibrate them onsite.

The controllers deliver millisecond, accurate touch and gesture response and support up to 100 simultaneous touch points.
