PENNSYLVANIA AMERICAN WATER TO LAUNCH

$1.2 MILLION WATER LINE UPGRADE IN

HAMPDEN TOWNSHIP

HERSHEY, Pa. (September 20, 2018) - Pennsylvania American Water today announced the start of construction to replace aging water main in Hampden Township to improve service reliability and enhance water flows for fire protection. The project, with an estimated cost of nearly $1.2 million, will replace outdated and undersized pipe dating back to the 1950s.

Starting the week of September 24, crews will install nearly 4,300 feet of new 12-inch ductile iron pipe along Sporting Hill Road between Carlisle Pike and East Trindle Road.

The first phase of construction is expected to take three-to-four weeks, and work hours will be Monday through Friday between 7 am and 5 pm. After phase one is completed, construction will transition to overnight hours from Sunday nights through Thursday mornings between 6 pm and 6 am. Traffic impacts are likely during construction hours, and motorists are urged to provide extra time and exercise caution when traveling through the work zone.

The company expects to complete the new main installation, testing and disinfection, and connecting customers' service lines to the new main by the end of November, weather permitting. Final paving restoration is scheduled for May 2019.

"This year, we are investing approximately $2.6 million for treatment plant upgrades and to replace aging pipeline in our West Shore system to help ensure reliable water service and fire protection for our customers for years to come," said Pennsylvania American Water Senior Manager of Operations Joseph Woodward. The company's West Shore system provides water service to more than 39,000 customers.
