Pennsylvania American Water to Begin $1.5 Million

Water Line Upgrade in Lemoyne

LEMOYNE, Pa. (August 1, 2019) - Pennsylvania American Water today announced the start of a major construction project to replace a section of water main, as well as utility-owned service lines and fire hydrants, in Lemoyne Borough to improve water service reliability and fire protection for area residents and businesses. The cost of the project is approximately $1,500,000 and will upgrade aging pipe dating back to the early 1900s.

Beginning the week of August 5, crews will begin to install nearly 4,350 feet of new eight-inch, six-inch, and four-inch ductile iron water main on Hummel Ave. between S. 3rd and S. 9th Streets and on S. 3rd

Street from Bosler Ave. to the 83 Bridge. Construction is scheduled for completion in December 2019 with final paving restoration occurring in spring 2020, weather permitting.

"This significant water main replacement project will ensure that our residential and business customers in Lemoyne continue to receive clean, reliable drinking water and fire protection for years to come," said Pennsylvania American Water Senior Manager of Operations Jon Prawdzik.

The company's Mechanicsburg system provides water service to nearly 41,000 customers in Cumberland County.

To accommodate motorists, crews will work nightly from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday through Friday, on S.

3rd St. and from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, on Hummel Ave. Traffic restrictions will be in place during construction, and motorists are urged to give themselves extra time and exercise caution when traveling through the work zone. During construction, customers might experience temporary water service interruptions, discolored water and/or lower than normal water pressure.
