Daimler AG said Wednesday that its Mercedes-Benz brand had its best second-quarter car sales in China to date due to a recovery in demand.

Quarterly car sales for the Mercedes-Benz brand in China rose 21.6% to 207,107 units, with a total of 346,067 in the first half of the year, the German premium car maker said.

"Mercedes-Benz's best second quarter to date in China shows the impressive speed at which demand is currently recovering in our largest market. From April to June, the effects of coronavirus had a strong impact on our deliveries in Europe and North America. By now, nearly all of our world-wide dealerships have reopened," Britta Seeger, member of the boards of management of Daimler and Mercedes-Benz, said.

The company also said Mercedes-Benz Cars & Vans sold 523,307 cars and commercial vans globally in the second quarter, with a total of 1,071,136 in the first half.
